About the Stadium
The stadium was built in 1923 and the first game played there was on October 20, 1923 against Washington (MO). The original stadium seated 16,000 and cost around $293,000 to build. It was named Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in honor of the people associated with the University of Oklahoma that died during World War I. In 2002, due to a contribution by the Gaylord Family for renovations and additions to the stadium, the name was changed to it current name of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
