Sales of Dr Who exterminate rivals
PN Online (Publishing News)
THE FIRST FOUR tie-in titles to the new Doctor Who series – The Clockwise Man and Monsters and Villains by Justin Richards, The Monsters Inside by Stephen Cole and Winner Takes All by Jacqueline Rayner, all published by the BBC – were reprinted before they even officially hit the shops on Thursday of last week. The original print run was 100,000 for all four, and the reprint was 75,000. They’re very, very successful, which isn’t surprising considering the publicity and reviews that Doctor Who has had," Jon Howells, Press and Communications Manager for Ottakar’s, told PN. "They’ve had great sales, and I think that will continue."
Lucy Avery, National Press Officer for Waterstone’s, reported that sales of the titles "doubled" over the weekend, while Meg Seymour, Marketing and Promotions Manager for Borders UK, said: "We have given these titles focus in section by pulling them out to the visible end of book cases, giving them standout from the backlist, and promoting them with a 3-for-2 multi-buy offer. Whilst we anticipated strong sales from this focused area, results so far have exceeded initial expectation."
