Nancy Drew (Revised)*   See series as if on a bookshelf
A series of middle grade novels written to appeal to young girls starring Nancy Drew who solves mysteries.  They were written by several people using the pen name Carolyn Keene.  The first thirty-four books in the series were later revised to be more up-to-date and to remove some unfavorable stereotypes beginning in  1959 until 1977.

This series includes the original 64 books starting with The Secret of the Old Clock and ending with Captive Witness (1981) and only includes the revisions of the first 34 books.  The copyright dates for these are the revised dates since I consider the originals to be different "books" even though they have the same title.  I have not decided whether not to document the titles for the original series as of now.

For the books in this series I've added the "true" author to the list (even if this is questionable) along with the psuedonym Carolyn Keene that is credited on each book.

Notes:
Edward L Stratemeyer (1862-1930), owner of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, hired writers (beginning with Mildred Wirt) to write the manuscripts for the Nancy Drew books.  They were paid $125 per book and were required to give up their rights to their works and to maintain confidentiality.  Harriet Adams (Stratemeyer's daughter) rewrote the original books and added new titles after the withdrawal of Mildred Benson nee Wirt.

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
