From epubbooks.com:

David Innes is a young man who has just inherited a large mining company. An eccentric inventor, Abner Perry, convinces Innes to underwrite a project to build an ‘iron mole’, claiming it will make them both wealthy. The mechanical beast works well, actually too well. On the maiden voyage, instead of digging for a few minutes and returning, they plunge straight through the earth’s crust into the ‘inner world’ of Pellucidar. This world resembles earth but is a horizon-less, primeval tropical landscape where the sun neither sets nor rises, and is populated by ‘Sagoth’ gorilla men, wild human slaves, and the ruling hypnotic reptilian ‘Mahars’. Upon arrival at this strange world, the men are immediately captured and enslaved. But soon Perry learns to read the language of the Mahars, and discovers a secret way to turn the tables! True to Burroughs form, this non-stop fantasy thriller weaves together savage islanders, pterodactyls, telepathy, and, of course, romance.

At the end of A PRINCESS OF MARS, the first volume in Burroughs’s Mars series, John Carter managed to get the factory that produces oxygen for Barsoom working again – and collapsed. When he came to, he found himself back on earth, and separated from his beloved Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Helium. It’s a decade later when Carter returns to Barsoom, and he finds himself in that part of the planet that the natives consider to be “heaven” – which is no heaven at all. Carter has to reunite with his friend the fierce green warrior Tars Tarkas, fight with plant men and the great white apes of Barsoom, violate some significant religious taboos, survive the affections of an evil goddess, foment a slave revolt, fight in an arena, and still save Dejah Thoris in the middle of a giant air battle between the red, green, black and white people of Barsoom. High adventure, Martian style.

Second in the Venus series. Carson Napier begins this episode in the Room of the Seven Doors. He can leave any time he wants, but six of the seven doors lead to hideous deaths; only one is the door of life. After navigating his way out of this logic puzzle, Carson continues his quest to rescue the planet’s fairest princess. He pursues this with singlemindedness, even though more terrible dagners lie ahead; even though the princess wishes neither his help or his affection; even though her people will execute him if he enters their country! Such is the honor of an Earthman’s pledge.

After a violent tropical storm, Orando of the Utengi comes upon a strange bronze giant pinned under a fallen tree.  Orando calls the creature Muzimo for it cannot remember its own name and therefore is most probably a god - a god who will protect Orando from the steel-taloned Leopard Men.  Little does Orando know that his protector is Tarzan of the Apes - for the Lord of the Jungle has suffered an injury and does not know himself who he is!

From epubbooks.com:

A great safari had come to Africa to make a movie. It had struggled across the veldt and through the jungle in great ten-ton trucks, equipped with all the advantages of civilization. But now it was halted, almost destroyed by the poisoned arrows of the savage Bansuto tribe. There was no way to return. And ahead lay the strange valley of diamonds, where hairy gorillas lived in their town of London on the Thames, ruled by King Henry the Eighth. Behind them came Tarzan of the Apes with the Golden Lion, seeking the man who might have been his twin brother in looks – though hardly in courage!

Tarzan sets out with Jason Gridley to rescue David Innes, imprisoned in a Korsar dungeon in fabled Pellucidar, the world within a world, lit by its own sun deep under the Earth's crust.  Here even Tarzan's giant strength is taxed to the limit as he battles with twenty-foot flying reptiles, sabre-toothed tigers and the other frightful carnivorous ancestors of the savage beasts he is accustomed to in his own jungles.

From epubbooks.com:

Tarzan of the Apes is very much a product of its age: replete with bloodthirsty natives and a bulky, swooning American Negress, and haunted by what zoo specialists now call charismatic megafauna (great beasts snarling, roaring, and stalking, most of whom would be out of place in a real African jungle). Burroughs countervails such incorrectness, however, with some rather unattractive representations of white civilization–mutinous, murderous sailors, effete aristos, self-involved academics, and hard-hearted cowards. At Tarzan’s heart rightly lies the resourceful and hunky title character, a man increasingly torn between the civil and the savage, for whom cutlery will never be less than a nightmare. The passages in which the nut-brown boy teaches himself to read and write are masterly and among the book’s improbable, imaginative best. How tempting it is to adopt the ten-year-old’s term for letters–“little bugs”! And the older Tarzan’s realization that civilized “men were indeed more foolish and more cruel than the beasts of the jungle,” while not exactly a new notion, is nonetheless potent. The first in Burroughs’s serial is most enjoyable in its resounding oddities of word and thought, including the unforgettable “When Tarzan killed he more often smiled than scowled; and smiles are the foundation of beauty.”
