The Liberty Series is a set of definitive stamps that takes its name from the 3¢, 8¢ and 11¢ denominations that picture the Statue of Liberty.
The 8¢ red, white and blue Statue of Liberty stamp that was issued on April 9, 1954, was the first of the series. The premiere of this stamp was broadcast on national television and President Eisenhower presided. This series was in general use from 1954 through 1973.
